Shiz Suzuki
Vice President, Global Brand Sponsorships & Experiential Marketing
American Express
Shiz Suzuki is Vice President, Global Brand Sponsorships & Experiential Marketing at American Express. She leads the company’s strategic brand partnerships and experiences globally across sports, music and entertainment; this includes spearheading innovative partnerships and impactful experiences globally, such as Formula 1/F1 ACADEMY, NBA/WNBA, Wimbledon, US Open Golf (Men’s and Women’s), US Open Tennis, Coachella/Stagecoach/BST Hyde Park, Brighton & Hove Albion F.C., Broadway/theater, Amex’s Global Venue Collection as well as music artist partnerships.
The portfolio Shiz oversees demonstrates the value of Amex Membership through access to venue perks, presale tickets, and experiences. Knowing that many millennial and Gen Zers cite things like entertainment and sports as reasons to join Amex, Shiz has ensured Amex’s sponsorship portfolio has something for all types of Card Members and fans.
Since joining American Express in 2021, she has helped the brand redefine the sports sponsorship playbook, including leading the end-to-end deal of American Express’ F1 partnership that started in 2023 in the Americas – the first new sports vertical for the company in over a decade – and through the global expansion of the partnership in 2025 that provides rights and assets at more than 20 races around the world. Shiz has also fostered greater connection amongst American Express’ global markets; she developed an International Sponsorships Center of Excellence to ensure the brand was maximizing sponsorships investments and delivering unique benefits for Card Members across the globe.
She’s also ensured Amex’s core business values come through in its sponsorships - like the brand’s commitment to supporting small business owners and local communities. Championing small business is at the core of its F1 ACADEMY sponsorship - which sees Amex’s livery prominently display the logo of a logo woman-owned small business at each ACADEMY race. Additionally, Amex incorporates small businesses into many of its experiential activations.
In addition, Shiz has evolved the company’s global music and artist partnership strategy; she has created one-of-a-kind music experiences and content, like Amex series “Story of My Song,” that brings Card Members closer to their favorite artists like Olivia Rodrigo, BLACKPINK, Billie Eilish, Dua Lipa and Harry Styles through artist co-creation of immersive activations, unique events and exclusive merchandise.
Prior to American Express, Shiz had a 14-year career at AT&T. Her experiences ranged from leading operational teams, workforce transformation, product marketing to evolving AT&T’s brand sponsorships and experiential marketing across sports and entertainment. As part of this transformation, Shiz guided the company into a sponsorship with the NBA/WNBA, as well as the fast-growing esports and gaming industry, and helped launch DE&I engagement platforms, like AT&T’s She’s Connected and AT&T Unlocked Games.
With 20+ years of experience in brand management, marketing and business operations, Shiz has received numerous accolades including recognition by Variety 2023 Women’s Impact Award, Billboard 2023 Women in Music Executive List, Crain’s New York Business: Notable Women in Sports 2022, Sports Business Journal Game Changer in 2020, Cynopsis Top Women in Sports for 2019, 2019 Stevie® Award for Most Innovative Women of the Year in Technology, and an Outstanding 50 Asian Americans in Business Award in 2019.
Shiz holds a bachelor’s degree in Cognitive Science from UCLA and an MBA from Pepperdine University. She currently lives in Brooklyn, NY with her husband Peter.
