In his role as an entrepreneur and the CEO of FYI.AI (a Web 3.0 AI messenger) will.i.am has been recognized by nine Grammy Awards, an Emmy Award, a CLIO Award, A TIME 100 Impact Award, the World Economic Forum’s Crystal Award, and an Honorary Fellowship by the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET).
What drives his entrepreneurial spirit in technology is his work as a philanthropist, where he encourages inner-city, disadvantaged youth to apply themselves in STEM fields so they can prepare themselves for an AI, autonomous, robotic and highly technical tomorrow. He is also simultaneously a creative advisor, futurist and artist, working fluidly in a cross-disciplinary career.
Highlights of his work as a Futurist and market opportunity spotter moved him into high gearwith Beats Electronics. As a founding equity stakeholder in the company, will.i.am was instrumental in helping to transform Beats By Dre™ into a global consumer electronics brand. Beats Electronics was purchased by Apple in 2014 for US$3 billion. He invests in and is focused on software and operating systems incorporating AI, natural language understanding,and voice computing. He is also an investor in creativity & productivity in companies and entities in the automotive, consumer-tech, fashion accessories, food & beverage, software and telecom sectors.
As a member of the World Economic Forum’s (WEF) Fourth Industrial Revolution Advisory Committee and its Global Artificial Intelligence Action Alliance (GAIAA) that monitors the impact of technology on society, people and work, will.i.am co-chairs the WEF Generation AI working group that examines the interaction of AI and youth across education, play, data rights and privacy.
His i.am/Angel Foundation supports STEAM education programs for more than 12,000 disadvantaged youth in grades K – 12 in Southern California, including the i.am College Track after-school tutoring center and college scholarship program, the Boyle Heights STEM Magnet High School in East Los Angeles, and hundreds of after-school robotics clubs in partnership with Los Angeles Unified Schools. He also sits on the boards of directors of College Track and FIRST Global.
