Ryan Butler, Vice President of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion at the Recording Academy®, is a
visionary leader transforming the music industry landscape. As the architect of groundbreaking
initiatives, Ryan is reshaping the Academy's approach to inclusivity and representation.
Ryan co-founded and serves as a key advisor to the influential Black Music Collective, uniting
industry powerhouses to drive Black representation across all genres. His innovative spirit
birthed Academy Proud, a pioneering LGBTQ+ initiative, and the Gold Music Alliance,
celebrating Pan-Asian contributions to music.

Ryan's impact extends beyond the Academy walls. He spearheaded the Women In The Mix®
Study, shedding light on gender disparities, and implemented the first-ever Inclusion Rider for
the GRAMMY Awards®. His crowning achievement was executive producing two historic
events: the 50 Years of Hip Hop celebration at Vice President Kamala Harris's residence, and
the Recording Academy Honors. This star-studded event has paid tribute to icons including Dr.
Dre, Missy Elliott, Lil Wayne, Sylvia Rhone, John Legend, MC Lyte, D-Nice, Mariah Carey,
Lenny Kravitz, and Jay-Z.

A passionate advocate for education, Ryan expanded the Academy's scholarship program,
opening doors for aspiring professionals at HBCUs and beyond. His efforts have dramatically
increased representation in the Academy's voting body and leadership.
With a background spanning entertainment, media, and higher education, Ryan brings a unique
perspective to his role. He holds a Master's in Music Business with a focus in Entertainment and
Media Management from New York University.
