Julie is the founder of Anecdote Candles, a Brooklyn-based company known for combining the art of storytelling with the science of fragrance. Anecdote began as a side project in 2019 and was picked up by Anthropoligie, Nordstrom, and Macyʼs its first year. Today, the brand is in over 3,500 doors and is driven by Julieʼs passion, commitment, and dry wit in a bid to make fragrance a conversation piece.
Before accidentally becoming a candlemaker, Julie spent over a decade as a strategy consultant at Ernst and Young and the design firm IDEO, where she worked with clients to evolve early product concepts through deep customer research, rapid prototyping, and comprehensive go-to-market strategies. She applies the same methodologies to enter new markets, develop strategic partnerships, and grow Anecdoteʼs brand. Her most recent launch is Anecdote&, a new customization offering where customers can create bespoke AI-generated anecdotes based on any mood, moment, or memory of their choosing. She calls this intersection of AI tech and analog products ʻartful intelligence.ʼ
