John Terrana is the Global Chief Media Officer at VaynerMedia. In this role, he oversees media operations globally, spanning planning, buying and analytics teams. Since joining VaynerMedia in 2020, John has evolved VaynerMedia from an agency specializing in biddable social media to one with a full spectrum of media disciplines, adding linear, retail media, programmatic, and search capabilities. Under his leadership, the agency has developed future-forward approaches that are more aligned with today’s modern marketing landscape, such as Modern Comms Planning – a model built to disrupt slow planning cycles with the understanding that the best comms planning happens after campaigns go live (when we have actual consumer data); and TV 3.0 – a video and linear TV practice that takes advantage of underpriced inventory to shift from expensive, fixed, upfront linear buying into biddable environments across OTT, CTV, and streaming. As a result of these efforts, VaynerMedia has helped triple media spend under management, and has grown the team to over 400 global practitioners; efforts that led to VaynerMedia being named Adweek’s 2021 Breakthrough Media Agency of the Year.
Prior to VaynerMedia, John spent over seven years at SocialCode, most recently as General Manager where he helped grow the media team from 20 people to over 300, and the advertising spend from $40m to over $1b. John began his career at Deutsch, overseeing digital production and media. He holds a double major in Marketing and English from Hofstra University.
