Rachel Oppenheim is founding Chief Revenue Officer at Semafor, a new global news organization launching in October 2022. Prior to her current role, Rachel led The New York Times’ largest advertising category and team – Tech and Telecom – as Head of Industry.
In her eight years at The New York Times, Rachel’s work focused on identifying emerging technologies and forming strategic partnerships to enhance journalism and drive revenue for The Times overall. Prior to her role as Head of Industry, Rachel was the Director of Sales for Story[X] a new commercial group launched within NYT advertising to drive integrated R&D focused Technology partnerships.
In this role, she led various first-of-a-kind partnerships such as working with Verizon to deliver 5G technology to The Times Newsroom, working with Google Cloud to digitize The Times’ 100 year old photo archive, and working with IBM to explore Blockchain’s applications to the future of media.
In 2022, Rachel was the winner of Digitay’s ‘Future Leader’ award in the publisher category. Rachel received her B.A from Emory University where she studied Philosophy and Journalism.
