Speaker Bio
As The Container Store’s Chief Marketing Officer, Melissa serves as guardian of the company’s brand, and is continually focused on strengthening and elevating it among all stakeholders. She is the company’s primary marketing strategist, and oversees such key functional areas as brand positioning, advertising, public relations, digital marketing, visual merchandising, social media, influencer marketing, brand partnerships, consumer insights, and the customer loyalty program.
Melissa’s “retail is detail” philosophy has been honed throughout her 25-year career with The Container Store, during which she has assumed roles with increasing responsibility – beginning as Art Director and progressing to such positions as Senior Director of Creative and Online Services, and Vice President of Creative and Online.
An essential component of her marketing philosophy is to create emotional connections between customers and the company’s 11,000+ products, leveraging such tactically-advanced components as data analytics and omni-channel technologies. Most recently Melissa helped spearhead a complete in-store transformation including presentation of products, in-store campaign support, graphics, and store discovery moments to ensure the store and online presence are cohesive, tell compelling stories and provide a consistent customer experience. Melissa also helped cultivate the brand’s biggest marketing and product partnerships to date, which include mainstream organizing duo The Home Edit and the tidying guru herself Marie Kondo. Her innovative way of thinking has also led to The Container Store’s new brand campaign and refreshed loyalty program, launching in early 2022.
A native of Canada, Melissa is a graduate of The Alberta College of Art with a degree in visual communications. She is married with one son, and enjoys traveling back to her home in Canada, specifically in the Canadian Rockies.
