Thanks to a growing wave of litigation and public scrutiny, greenwash is emerging as a serious risk for advertisers and agencies who may be held to account for making climate claims that are disproportionate to their actions and investments. While social science research reveals that misleading, green-themed ads are becoming more pervasive, over 2,000 climate lawsuits have been filed against major advertisers globally, with one quarter of those cases filed within the past two years.
Featuring Oxford University Climate Litigation Lab’s Dr. Benjamin Franta and Generous Films founder Christine Arena, this session explores how problematic greenwashing is for the advertising industry. These experts will discuss the modern forms of greenwash as well as impart priority actions and best next steps agencies and brands can take to ensure they are doing their part to operate an ethical and sustainable business.
